The making of a Wall Tapestry. Wall hangings are an
art.
A wall
tapestry is the result of the intersection of two kinds of threads, warp
and colored weft.
Two techniques exist in the manufacture of the wall hangings: the
"Haute-lisse" and the "Basse-lisse". A wall tapestry is a
complicated art form.
These two wall tapestry techniques are
radically different. However, once the work is completed, it is often
impossible to recognize the difference between them. The Haute-Lisse
loom is composed of two pillars supporting two mobile cylinders
(rollers), the first one placed in the higher part, and the other in the
lower part. The wall hangings weaving is thus made vertically. With the
Basse-Lisse loom, the warp is stretched on a horizontal plan, thus
weaving for this part of the wall tapestry is made horizontally.
A wall tapestry is a very elegant addition to your
current home decor. It offers depth and texture that ordinary wall
hangings cannot. You get a unique experience from viewing a wall
tapestry, different people see different things in the woven patterns.
Owning a well-made wall tapestry is akin to owning a
grand piece of art. The value of your wall hangings will increase
over time. You will also get hours of pleasure from the
intricacies of your wall tapestry.
