Knighthood and the Medieval
Tapestry.
Chivalry and
knighthood played a significant role in the design of the medieval
tapestry. Many of these wall hangings depicted knights in combat
and victorious warriors after battle. The medieval tapestry
captured the true essence of the Middle Ages.
Historically speaking, a medieval tapestry
is a document of a time gone by. It is, as is every record of
history, exaggerated. Depictions on these wall hangings was based
on the ideals of the person doing the tapestry weaving.
In a medieval tapestry, only defeats of
enemies were woven. The weaver's knights and king were always
shown in a good light. These wall hangings are a biased
description of the past.
This bias does not, however, take away from
the grandeur and importance of the medieval tapestry. These wall
hangings are still the most sought after form of tapestry available
today.
